Description of the work process in Stockholm for a regional standard for tubes, drains and catheters as well as fluid balance. This standard has been implemented in two health care information systems with an existing integration between the main electronic health record system and the PDMS used in intensive, neonatal, postoperative and anesthesia care. Lessons learned from Snomed CT terminology binding and integration process enabling transfer of info from PDMS to main EHR system.

Description

The scope was to create a regional standard for documentation of tubes, drains, catheters and fluid balance to enable a common terminology between the systems, facilitate documentation and information transfer between systems and enhance quality improvement and research.

Scope

In Stockholm we have a strategy which states that SNOMED CT shall be used as the main terminology standard for clinical information.

How SNOMED CT will be used

In the project conceptual models were created which were then used as a basis for SNOMED CT terminology binding. The standard, conceptual models and terminology binding can also be utilised for future integrations.
