SNOMED International together with the Certified Health Informatician Australasia (CHIA) program have announced that three SNOMED CT courses are now endorsed for continuing professional development (CPD) points and count towards CHIA recertification.
These courses are all provided online through SNOMED International and include:
SNOMED CT Foundation Course (11 CPD points)A broad introduction to clinical terminology – self-paced and delivered over a maximum of four months
SNOMED CT Implementation Course (50 CPD points)Knowledge and skills for terminology implementation – delivered on a fixed schedule over six months
SNOMED CT Authoring Level 1 Course (60 CPD points)Terminology authoring at an introductory level – delivered on a fixed schedule over five months
It takes years of experience to earn health informatics certification and maintaining currency through recertification is essential to professional development. CHIA credentials need to be renewed every three years by participating in qualifying learning and development activities.
Through its established education program, SNOMED International is committed to acknowledging the professional investment of health informaticians in clinical terminology education and will continue to explore partnerships of this nature with recognized associations across the globe. Â
