At first, SNOMED-CT terminology will be used for the capture of surgical procedures in our operating room management software. In a near future, we plan to generalize the use SNOMED-CT to capture medical information (in structured fields or using NLP technology on unstructured text) in our EHR.
The idea is to be able to use these codified data for:
fulfillment of contribution to national health registers
implementation of smart medical alerts and decision supports
data analytics for quality and efficiency improvement
Description
These developments form a part of a larger initiative grouping Belgian hospitals and software vendors who wish to promote implementation of the SNOMED CT terminology in their EHRs.
