TASHKENT, UZBEKISTAN AND LONDON, UK – January 13, 2026 – SNOMED International today announced that the Republic of Uzbekistan has joined SNOMED International as a Member, becoming part of the global SNOMED CT community.
Uzbekistan, a Central Asian country with a population exceeding 37 million, is implementing a nationwide digital transformation of its healthcare system under the “Digital Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy. A central objective of this program is the creation of an interoperable, standards-based digital health ecosystem that enables secure data exchange, continuity of care, and evidence-based decision-making across the health sector.
At the core of this transformation is the development of a national Digital Health Platform (DHP) — a unified interoperability layer designed to connect healthcare information systems, registries, clinical applications, and analytical services across the country. The DHP approach focuses on platform-based architecture, shared services, and the use of international standards to ensure clinical, technical, and organizational interoperability.
Uzbekistan’s decision to join SNOMED International represents an important milestone in strengthening the semantic foundation of its Digital Health Platform. The adoption of SNOMED CT will support the standardized, structured, and computable representation of clinical information — including diagnoses, clinical findings, procedures, and other health concepts — across interconnected systems.
With the adoption of SNOMED CT’s global clinical terminology, Uzbekistan can ensure that diagnoses, procedures, and medication details are captured in a consistent, computable format – making it possible to safely integrate data from multiple institutions, automate reporting, and enable AI-driven insights as the national digital health system expands.
SNOMED International CEO, Don Sweete, acknowledges how Uzbekistan is strengthening and accelerating its national digital health program. “Our global community welcomes Uzbekistan as our second Member in the Central Asia region,” says Don. “By adopting SNOMED CT, Uzbekistan is strengthening its digital health platform – one that can support seamless data exchange and data-driven healthcare insights, helping the country and its citizens realize its ambitious digital health goals.”
Commenting on Uzbekistan’s membership, Dr. Ruslan Sultanov, Director for Healthcare Digitalization at UZINFOCOM, said: “Uzbekistan’s membership in SNOMED International is an important step toward building interoperable, standards-based digital health systems aligned with global best practices. The implementation of SNOMED CT as a foundational clinical terminology, we are strengthening the semantic layer of our digital health ecosystem — ensuring that clinical information can be shared, interpreted, and reused reliably across institutions, healthcare systems, and digital services.”
