Kazakhstan has been experiencing a rapid growth in the eHealth domain. Joining SNOMED International is a breakthrough step for the health care system of the country. Achieving all levels of interoperability among existing information systems of the Ministry of Health and medical information systems installed in hospitals is a principal objective of an e-health policy in Kazakhstan. With that objective, Ministry of Health is currently implementing a health integration platform, which is a national-level information system ensuring an automated collection of relevant, accurate and complete information for a safe, fair, high-quality and sustainable health care system, focused on the needs of patients. Implementation of the SNOMED clinical terminology into health information systems in Kazakhstan will help to achieve structuredness and consistency of medical information, which in future will support clinical decisions and planning a health policy in general. Kazakhstan's representative to SNOMED International is the RSE on REM “Republican Center for Health Development” of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, E-health standardization unit.
