Switzerland will use SNOMED CT within 4 years nationally and is a member of SNOMED International since early 2016. The current use cases focus on exchange of medical information within a national electronic patient record.
Current use cases and include: Location: Geneva, Switzerland
IHE XDS Document metadata (e.g. role of the author of the document, type of institution, type of document and class of document)
eMedication (Based on IHE Pharmacy and suitability for use of SNOMED CT e.g. for dosing instructions)

Lab-results (usage of SNOMED CT for microbiology). Beside, SNOMED CT is also specified for reporting purposes in notifiable lab results and lab results in transplantation medicine
Description
The scope of the project, and the use case it is addressing is to support mobile health, emedication and evaccination. Switzerland has implemented a "Federal act on the Electronic health record". The act links canton-based projects under national rules. The act came into force on the 15th, April 2017. The time scales for transition are: hospitals (2020), nursing homes (2022), outpatient care (voluntary), citizens/patients (voluntary).
Scope
Switzerland will use SNOMED CT within 4 years nationally and is a member of SNOMED International since early 2016. SNOMED CT has been adopted by Switzerland as the national standard clinical terminology. SNOMED CT will therefore by the central terminology in all data exchange linked to the EHR.
