The major target of AKTIN is to enable health care – and epidemiologic research with the use of a special emergency room documentation protocol that is published by the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care – and Emergency Medicine (DIVI).

For the improvement of health care research, a uniform and standardized electronic documentation of all emergency patients shall be implemented throughout German hospitals. AKTIN is carried out by a consortium of the following partners: Goethe University Frankfurt, Justus Liebing University Giessen, Witten-Herdecke University, TMF e.V., Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences/Faculty of Health Care and many more.

The Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences is responsible for the medical coding of the emergency room documentation protocol and assists the standardization process.
