SNOMED International is staffed by a multinational, highly qualified, multidisciplinary and globally based workforce. Our staff are chosen for their specific skills and experience. Many come with clinical backgrounds; others will have worked for health departments within member countries and have built strong, valuable networks and have a deep understanding of how clinical terminology is utilized within these environments.
Those involved with applications, architecture and delivery have between them a wide variety of technical and project management skills and are fully conversant with the latest technologies. SNOMED International Senior Management Team
Appointed as Chief Executive Officer in January 2014, Don Sweete has been associated with SNOMED International as a member of the Management Board since October 2011. A graduate of Canada’s Dalhousie University, Don comes to the CEO position with extensive experience in health services and health information technology. He has held executive positions on both the commercial and governmental sides for the past 32 years, most recently as Executive Regional Director of the Atlantic Region of Canada Health Infoway.
Jim joined SNOMED International in June 2015, on a part time basis from the NLM. He provides leadership across the Content development and Mapping areas which sit within IHTSDO\'s Products and Services Line of Business. Jim received his MS in Genetics from Stanford University and both his D.V.M. and Ph.D. (Comparative Pathology) from UC Davis. He served as Professor of Clinical Diagnostic Informatics with the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System at UC Davis from 1986 until 2010. In 1995, his efforts were focused on the development of national veterinary data standards. He has been heavily involved in standards development organizations and currently serves as a member of the Laboratory LOINC committee, co-chair of the Health Level Seven vocabulary work group, Director at large for HL7 and has been a member of the SNOMED International SNOMED CT Content Committee since 2013. He joined the NLM in January 2010, where his primary role has been the development and maintenance of the US extension to SNOMED CT and addition of US content into the International release of SNOMED CT. He is the first veterinarian to be elected to the American College of Medical Informatics.
Rory joined the SNOMED International in January 2013 with a background in technology, having worked in a wide range of countries, industries, technologies and technology roles. Previously he worked as part of the end to end solutions architecture team responsible for the roll-out of smart energy meters in the UK, and prior to that he worked for the Department of Health in the UK as the Lead Technical Architect for the National Pandemic Flu Service and the Lead Technical Architect for Primary Care within NHS Connecting for Health. His role as Technical Services Executive Lead is to ensure that the technology platform is in place to secure the maintenance and delivery of SNOMED CT as well as the day to day operations of SNOMED International, whilst focusing on the need for innovative solutions to deliver real value to users, the wider community and the business.
Clare has worked in the field of Human Resources for the last 22 years, primarily within a Consultancy environment. She has covered all aspects of the HR lifecycle - from recruitment through to redundancy and all points in between - and is a qualified executive coach. She joined SNOMED International in February 2013 and is working as part of the management team to both advise and develop HR policy and good practice across our global organization and to look at how we grow and develop our people professionally. Clare holds a BA Hons degree in Historical Studies and a Post Graduate Diploma PG(Dip) in Personnel Management. She is a graduate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in the UK and holds a Practitioner Diploma in Executive Coaching from the AoEC.
Kelly joined SNOMED International in February 2017 as the organisation’s Executive Lead for Communications with over 15 years experience in the health and health informatics industry. Most recently employed by Canada Health Infoway, Kelly has been responsible for digital health strategy development, vendor liaison through Infoway’s national certification service, as well as driving strategic communications and stakeholder engagement in pursuit of the organisation’s clinical interoperability and standards program. Kelly thrives on communicating and engaging with stakeholders and influencers to successfully achieve organisational vision and priorities.
Shelley Lipon joined SNOMED International as Customer Relations Executive for the America\'s in 2014 after spending the last 10 years with Canada Health Infoway (“Infoway”). During her time at Infoway she was responsible for all client relations and investment projects for the mid-western region. She also led Infoway\'s Certification Service for the last 3 years. Prior to working for Infoway Shelley was the CEO of the Saskatchewan Health Information Network, the provincial agency responsible for the development and implementation of the electronic health record across the Province. Shelley is a fellow chartered accountant and also recently completed her chartered board of directors accreditation. In November 2015 Shelley took on the responsibility for leading the CRM Team.
Originally from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Lesley is a Certified Project Management Professional, Scrum Master and proficient Decision Analysis facilitator. Lesley brings experience that spans diverse industries where she successfully balanced the restraints of time, money, and people in both the private and public sectors. She has achieved project success in leading, defining, managing and controlling large scale technology projects throughout multiple locations offering effective leadership in end-to-end project management within virtual team atmospheres. Her senior level experience also brings change management, business process, and industry best practices knowledge.
Kuldip joined SNOMED International in March 2014. Her role covers all aspects of financial management and corporate services within the organization. Kuldip\'s responsibilities range from annual planning and budgeting, financial control, procurement, risk management and management reporting to the governing bodies of the Association to overseeing the Corporate Services team based in Denmark and the UK. Prior to joining the Organisation, Kuldip worked at a senior level in a number of FTSE 100 companies and brings in excess of twenty years of experience in financial management, operational management and project management. Kuldip is a Chartered Accountant and holds a first class honours degree in Accountancy.
