Although globally there are some hopeful signs regarding the management of the COVID-19 situation, it is becoming increasingly apparent that travel restrictions will remain in place for many of our SNOMED CT community in October. After much analysis and discussion, SNOMED International governance and organizational leadership have decided that the SNOMED CT Expo 2020, taking place October 8-9, will be run solely as a virtual event.  Portugal will now serve as the October Business Meeting and SNOMED CT Expo host in 2021, with subsequent awarded hosts to follow accordingly.

‘Going virtual’ will open up some new and exciting possibilities for how this year’s SNOMED CT Expo is run. Supported by an online platform integrated with the event registration system, presenters will share their SNOMED CT experiences through video and interact with their audience via Q&A sessions, whilst attendees explore an Expo environment composed of industry supporters.

Event registration will open in July and program information and other details will be available in the coming months. Thank you for your continued support of SNOMED International and the SNOMED CT Expo. We hope to “see” you on October 8-9!

Call for abstracts

Please be advised that the abstract submissions for virtual oral presentations and e-posters have now closed.

All Expo presentations and posters must be related to SNOMED CT and should be informative rather than promoting a particular product or service. They should enable attendees to enhance the breadth of their knowledge of SNOMED CT and be aligned with one of three program streams:

Demonstrating Implementation Excellence
Presentations exploring practical, first-hand experience in using SNOMED CT. Implementers from healthcare organizations, government agencies and industry will share their lessons learned and benefit realization achievements.

Enhancing Clinical Practice
Presentations focused on the application of SNOMED CT in clinical settings and clinical research; aimed at enhancing the patient experience, clinical outcomes, reducing costs or improving efficiency of the clinical practices. This may include such areas as precision medicine, data analytics, decision support etc.

Terminology Leading Practices
Presentations covering experience and ideas on innovative enhancements of SNOMED CT, as well as those in conjunction with other international standards, e.g., content development, mappings, description logic.

Oral presentations will be 30 minutes in length and presented virtually, and e-posters must be prepared using a supplied template. Please be assured that technical support will be provided to facilitate this new virtual format.

Presenters will be notified of the outcome of their submissions by June 22, 2020.

Please contact our events team at if you have any questions about the event.
